Orange County Sheriff's homicide investigators made an arrest Tuesday in the Easter Sunday killing that left a man dead in a Stanton alley and led deputies to an illegal gambling house nearby.
Jeffrey Lynn Clayton, 43, of Fullerton, was arrested late Tuesday and booked at Orange County Jail on suspicion of homicide. Investigators said Clayton and the victim appeared to have known each other prior to the incident.
The victim has been identified as Anthony Lee Carlos, 37, also of Fullerton. Carlos was found dead around 5:30 a.m. Sunday, April 5, in an alley near Main Street and Pacific Street in Stanton. He died from a gunshot wound.
The investigation led deputies that morning to an illegal gambling operation at a residence near Cerritos Avenue and Flower Avenue, about a block from where Carlos was found. Approximately 50 people were detained outside the home. Six were arrested on outstanding warrants unrelated to the homicide. Multiple illegal gambling machines were removed and booked as evidence.
The Orange County Sheriff's Department said the investigation is ongoing and no additional information will be released at this time.
