The American Red Cross is bringing its national fire safety campaign to Seal Beach this month, and organizers are looking for volunteers to help make it happen.

On Saturday, March 28, the Red Cross will team up with the Orange County Fire Authority and local community partners for a Sound the Alarm event at Mutual 3 at Leisure World Seal Beach. The event runs from 7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Volunteers will work in teams to test existing smoke alarms, install new ones at no cost to residents, provide home fire safety education, and document services provided. Training and role descriptions are available before and during the event.

Sound the Alarm is a nationwide campaign that has already saved more than 2,500 lives across the United States by getting working smoke alarms into homes that lack them. A working smoke alarm cuts the risk of dying in a home fire in half.

Organizers are specifically seeking adult volunteers over the age of 18, including bilingual speakers of Spanish and Korean to assist residents who may not be comfortable communicating in English.

The meeting address is provided during the online registration process.
