Orange County Sheriff deputies conducting a proactive patrol in Stanton observed a known-wanted subject and gave chase around 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. The subject fled to a residential backyard in the 7000 block of Syracuse Avenue and attempted to evade deputies.

The Sheriff's Helicopter, callsign Duke, located the suspect and directed deputies to his position. The subject refused to comply with deputies' commands to surrender peacefully and climbed onto the roof of a nearby residence.

Sheriff's resources were rapidly deployed to the scene, including the department's UAV, Crisis Negotiation Team, SWAT, and K9 units. Deputies initially attempted to gain compliance through verbal commands, and when unsuccessful, less-lethal systems were deployed to encourage the suspect to surrender peacefully.

The suspect eventually surrendered after a K9 was deployed onto the roof. He was transported to a hospital for evaluation before being booked at the Orange County Jail on outstanding warrants and charges related to resisting arrest.
