Garden Grove postponed two of its most anticipated annual events Saturday, citing an active emergency incident requiring the bulk of city resources: the 66th Annual Strawberry Parade and the Strawberry Stomp 5K will not run as scheduled.

The City of Garden Grove, the Garden Grove Strawberry Festival, and the Sister City Association of Garden Grove made the joint decision in coordination with public safety and emergency response partners. The statement noted that city resources "continue to be dedicated to the active incident response occurring."

The word from organizers is postponed, not canceled. Scheduling options are currently being evaluated, and the organizations have pledged to share rescheduled dates through official channels. The active incident is a chemical spill at GKN Aerospace's Garden Grove facility, which North OC Pulse reported on Thursday. The response has been significant enough to draw the majority of the city's first responders away from regular operations.

The 66th Strawberry Festival is one of the oldest continuously running civic celebrations in Southern California. The parade along Garden Grove Boulevard draws tens of thousands of spectators each year. The Stomp 5K is a newer addition to the Festival calendar but has become a fixture for the running community in the region.
