A Cypress Police Department officer interrupted a Kia theft in progress near Bloomfield Avenue and Orange, setting off a multi-city pursuit that crossed into LA County and ended with two juvenile suspects connected to a robbery spree across three cities.

The stop that started it

The officer was patrolling the area of Bloomfield and Orange when suspects were spotted attempting to steal a Kia parked along Bloomfield. Before officers could intervene, the group fled north into Hawaiian Gardens, crossing from Orange County into LA County.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department dispatched a helicopter and joined the pursuit.

Wanted in Norwalk, Pico Rivera, and Fullerton

As the chase developed, officers learned the vehicle was possibly connected to robberies committed earlier that same evening in Norwalk, Pico Rivera, and Fullerton. The Kia attempt in Cypress was apparently not the first stop of the night.

When the vehicle reached Long Beach, Cypress officers disengaged from the active pursuit and followed at a distance while the LASD helicopter maintained continuous visual on the suspect vehicle. Long Beach PD and the California Highway Patrol moved in from the ground to assist.

Two juveniles taken into custody in Long Beach

With Long Beach PD, LASD, and CHP on scene, officers took two juvenile suspects into custody in Long Beach. Fullerton Police responded to the location and confirmed the pair had been involved in a robbery in their city just before the pursuit started.

Inside the vehicle, investigators found stolen cash, ski masks, and burglary tools. Both juveniles were charged with robbery, resisting arrest, felony evading, and attempted vehicle theft. They were booked into Orange County Juvenile Hall.

Part of a broader pattern

It is the second time in recent months that Cypress officers have intercepted what appears to be a crew traveling from LA County to commit crimes in Orange County. In March, Cypress nightshift officers spotted a stolen carjacking vehicle near Lincoln and Moody and apprehended a 14-year-old Los Angeles suspect with a loaded handgun recovered from the car.

No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
