Cypress Police night shift officers arrested two men from Los Angeles on Thursday after finding them parked in a residential neighborhood with everything needed to strip a catalytic converter off a car: a floor jack, gloves, power tools, and a stolen converter already in the vehicle.
Both occupants were on probation. One had an outstanding warrant. Officers arrested both on charges of grand theft and conspiracy. The warrant charge added a third count for one of them.
What they did not have was a good explanation for being parked in a Cypress neighborhood at night with all of it sitting in the car.
Cypress PD did not release the names of the two suspects or the specific street where the vehicle was located. The department posted details of the arrest on social media Friday, crediting the night shift for the catch.
The arrest fits a pattern seen across the region: suspects driving in from outside the area, working residential streets late at night, and leaving before anyone calls it in. Thursday night in Cypress, officers got there first.
